Monday Movie Report: Golden Globes Preview And SAG Awards Breakdown

The 74th Golden Globe awards are just about a week away and the presenters along with the Cecil B. DeMille prize have been selected.

According to, the following will be presenters as the award ceremony unfolds on Jan. 8:

The Cecil B. DeMille recipient, meanwhile, is Eight-time Golden Globe winner and three-time Oscar winner Meryl Streep.

Along with the Golden Globes, another award ceremony coming soon is that of the Screen Actors Guild. Recently, the SAG released its list of nominations in film.

Leading the pack for the SAG nominations, scheduled for Jan. 29, is “Manchester by the Sea” with four. Tied for second are “Fences” and “Moonlight” with three.


Away from award season, it’s been a dominant run for the latest “Star Wars” movie at the box office. Early estimates show “Rogue One” with more than $49 million in its third weekend.

The full weekend top five was:

1. Rogue One (Star Wars) – $49,539,000
2. Sing – $42,820,000
3. Passnegers – $15,150,000
4. Moana – $10,974,000
5. Why Him? – $10,600,000

Coming out this weekend, meanwhile, is the action sequel “Underworld: Blood Wars” and the fantasy picture “A Monster Calls.”
