Monday Movie Report: ‘Black Panther’ Continues Its Box Office Dominance

“Black Panther” has surpassed $500 million in its domestic box office gross after another successful weekend.

In doing so, Box Office Mojo reports that the Marvel picture has become the 10th largest domestic release of all time. Additionally, by reaching its current total, “Black Panther” now stands above most of the other Marvel releases, second only to “The Avengers,” which had a $623 million gross domestically.

Following “Black Panther’s” $501 million is “Avengers: Age of Ultron” with $459 million, “Iron Man 3” with $409 million and “Captain America: Civil War” with $408 million.

Coming in second place for this past weekend, meanwhile, was the Fox release “Red Sparrow,” a spy thriller starring Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence. In third place was another new release, “Death Wish,” a remake featuring Bruce Willis.

1. Black Panther – $65,705,000
2. Red Sparrow – $17,000,000
3. Death Wish – $13,025,000
4. Game Night – $10,710,000
5. Peter Rabbit – $10,000,000

Another large budget film is set for release this coming weekend in the book adaptation “A Wrinkle in Time.” Other new pictures coming include the horror sequel “The Strangers: Prey at Night” and the action flick “Hurricane Heist.”
